Commenting on the decision by the new German coalition parties SPD (Social Democrats), Greens and FDP (Liberals) to “secure the UHF band permanently for culture and broadcasting” (coalition agreement), Initiative SOS – Save Our Spectrum spokesman Jochen Zenthoefer said:

“This is the strongest political commitment to the use of the UHF frequencies for culture and media (DVBT-2 and 5G Broadcast) ever. Germany’s will is now clear: at the World Radiocommunication Conference 2023, they will fight to safeguard the proven status quo.

The specter of a co-primary allocation to mobile communications, which would have meant the end of culture in the spectrum between 470 and 694 MHz in the medium term, is off the table. With this, SPD, Greens and FDP are implementing what they promised in the election campaign. This is a wonderful day for the cultural and creative industries all over Europe.”
