This is a great success for the entire Telefónica team with his international boss José María Álvarez-Pallete:

The German Telefónica boss Markus Haas had announced that there will be no more dead spots on the German mobile phone map by 2024.

His telephone company is therefore working together with competitors Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone. 6000 new transmitter stations are planned. The federal government is building another 5000 stations.

Haas is not asking for more frequencies for the expansion plans.

This means that the cultural frequencies (470 – 694 MHZ) are not needed by IMT to fix the dead spots. These frequencies can stay where they are: PMSE, terrestrial broadcasting and astronomy.

The IMT corporations can solve their problems without these frequencies!

Markus Haas in Germany shows that! A role model for all of Europe!

Muchas gracias, señor José María Álvarez-Pallete !

Vielen Dank (many thanks), lieber Markus Haas!

Background:

The four telecommunication companies auctioning frequencies in Germany have enough of these, namely 1130 MHz in the range between 703 and 3700 MHz and at least another 800 MHz in the 26 GHz range. And a provision of the frequencies at 42 GHz (40.5 – 43.5 GHz) already harmonized by the World Radiocommunication Conference 2019 is currently being implemented in Europe.

“As representatives of the cultural and creative industries, we have always said that mobile operators do not need new frequencies. The coverage problem, recognisable by the dead spots, will now be solved by 2024 without the theft of cultural frequencies. Great news!

The capacity problem has been defused by the shutdown of 3G and can be solved by the use of Massive MIMO antenna arrays,” said Save Our Spectrum spokesperson Jochen Zenthoefer.

Based on the current development, he calls on the German government to fight for a preservation of the TV-UHF frequencies for microphones, culture and terrestrial television at the World Radiocommunication Conference in 2023.

“The events industry cannot take another shock after the pandemic. The frequencies must remain secured beyond 2030. It’s good that the mobile phone companies are now finding technical solutions that will allow culture to be preserved in Germany.”
